External Hard Drives – More Storage as Needed
There are several ways by which you could obtain or add much needed storage through external USB hard drives or if you prefer, an NAS appliance which is a dedicated hard-drive on a stripped down computer attached onto the network through a cable. The need for a lot of space is quite demanding on computer systems and so is ample cooling to prevent your PC or editing computer from going into a meltdown. Proper cooling can be attained with the use of an air conditioning unit and a dehumidifier to keep the air dry or by peppering your desktop with cooling fans to take away heat that is generated by the processor, video card and hard drives. With the advent of the terabyte drives, storage isn;t much of a problem yet they are still quite pricey and for a more realistic storage solution, several SATA drives would do.
The terabyte drives also run on specific hardware, with most older computers limited to maximum amount of hard drives they can handle. A quick bios update of newer ones may allow terabyte drives but for older pc’s, external SATA drives on a USB 2.0 connection would do. Practice maintenance often, deleting saved projects that have already been finished or transferring them onto dvd’s for archival purposes.
