Building an editing rig

When you want to take your video editing skills to the next level – especially when you’re tired of limited options in Windows Movie Maker, then you need a rig that can handle advanced editing software. Here are the basic requirements:

1. At least 2gb of RAM, more if you’re on Vista. Editing software takes up a lot of memory when in use, so you need a lot of it to make things run more smoothly.

2. A processor that is equal, more, or equivalent of an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0.

3. A capture card. This is for capturing video from video tapes and the like. Note that this may be a little pricey, as capturing software is usually bundled into it when you buy it.

4. Lots of hard disk space. Raw videos are large, and you will need storage both for the raw and edited videos.
